Port Canaveral-based Coast Guard units host open house

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — Port Canaveral-based Coast Guard units hosted an open house for Clearlake Middle School students and faculity to attend aboard Coast Guard Staion Port Canaveral, Thursday.

More than 400 students gathered to learn about the Coast Guard and the local agencies that participated in the open house as part of the Partners In Education program.

“This is a great oppurtunity and environment for the students to learn about the Coast Guard’s story”, said Ensign Eric Sesta, crewmember aboard Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant. “Teaching these kids about the Coast Guard’s role in the community gives the crew a sense of enjoyment and pride.”

Coast Guard units that partcipated in this open house included: Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral, Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Canaveral and the crew of the 210-foot Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant.
