Port Angeles Coast Guard Celebrates 100 Years of Naval Aviation

Port Angeles, Wash. – Coast Guard Air Station / Sector Field Office Port Angeles is hosting a local celebration for the Centennial of Naval Aviation combined with a Safe Boating Expo at the Coast Guard base on Ediz Hook in Port Angeles on June 25, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In tribute to 100 years of Naval Aviation, Air Station Port Angeles will host a fly-in for government and commercial aircraft from around the northwest. A wide variety of aircraft will be on display for viewing.

Attendees can tour Air Station / Sector Field Office Port Angeles, including the hanger and locally stationed Coast Guard response boats. A live search-and-rescue demonstration will be conducted by the crew of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter at 1 p.m.

The Safe Boating Expo will showcase a number of safety techniques and tools. Boaters can schedule free vessel safety examinations and inspections of their fire extinguishers and EPIRBs. Members representing the CG program “Paddle Smart” will be available to register kayaks. Small Boat Station Port Angeles will demonstrate how to operate a dewatering pump; which are deployed by the Coast Guard to vessels in distress. Boating vendors will demonstrate the latest in safety products and first aid.
