Passenger vessel Massachusetts safely moored, Coast Guard continues investigation

BOSTON — The passenger vessel Massachusetts is safely moored at Fitzgerald Shipyard in Chelsea, Mass., after being towed by two Acushnet Marine tug boats Saturday.

The Massachusetts refloated with the incoming tide and was then towed to the shipyard, arriving at approximately 11 p.m.

Crews are working to remove oil from the vessel before removing it from the water to make repairs.

A Coast Guard crew verified that all aids to navigation in the channel where the incident occurred are correctly positioned and working properly.

Drug and alcohol testing of the crew has been conducted as part of a formal Coast Guard investigation of the grounding but will not be released until the investigation is complete.

The Coast Guard investigation is ongoing.
