Parasailing Accident in South Padre Island leaves woman dead

25-foot response boatCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A boater recovered the body of a woman who was parasailing Saturday evening, after she fell to the water near South Padre Island.

The boater called the Coast Guard at 6:23 p.m., reporting that he picked her up and began CPR. A Coast Guard Station South Padre Island boatcrew continued CPR and transported her to local emergency services where she was pronounced dead.

The details of the accident are currently being investigated by Coast Guard and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family for this tragedy. I also send my sincere thanks to the nearby boater who responded so quickly to this incident,” said Capt. Tony Hahn, the commander of Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi. “As we look closely into this incident, we encourage any witnesses to contact the Coast Guard so we can be as thorough as possible in our investigation of this incident.”
