Search continues for missing person from small plane crash near Matagorda Bay

Coast Guard 8th District NewsCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard continues to search for one of two passengers whose plane crashed near Matagorda Bay, Sunday.

Crews from Texas Parks and Wildlife recovered one of the passengers Sunday morning.

A MH-65C rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi conducted a first light search with negative results this morning, and a 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crew from Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor has established a safety zone for Texas Department of Safety diver to search. Texas Department of Safety is working with Texas Parks and Wildlife to recover the wreckage.

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. Coast Guard crews will continue to search the area for the remaining person.
