Oahu students attend education expo at Coast Guard Base Honolulu

Hawaii-Pacific Coast Guard NewsHONOLULU — High school and middle school students throughout Oahu attended the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math exposition at Coast Guard Base Honolulu, Friday.

The STEM Expo is a collaborative initiative to promote core technological disciplines to inspire future innovators.

Approximately 192 students from Mililani and Jarrett Middle Schools, as well as Kahuku, Farrington, Radford, and Kaiser High Schools had an opportunity to tour Coast Guard boats and helicopters and interact with Coast Guardsmen from various shore and afloat units.

“The Fourteenth Coast Guard District’s STEM Expo is a great opportunity to educate the students of Hawaii on the benefits of science, technology, engineering, and math in the workplace,” said Lt. Andrew Heil for Coast Guard Base Honolulu. “We are honored to host this event and hope that it will inspire the youth to consider future career paths within these fields.”
