Northern California Coast Guard crews head to Haiti to assist with earthquake relief

ALAMEDA, Calif. – A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules long range search and rescue aircraft flew from Air Station Sacramento to Air Station Clearwater, Fla. yesterday with two Coast Guard flight crews, a Federal Emergency Management Agency response team and emergency response equipment. The plane has picked up additional personnel and equipment for transport to Haiti.

Eight members of the U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team San Francisco, also deployed Thursday to assist with earthquake relief. The team specializes in port and waterway security.

Other Coast Guard personnel and equipment, such as the pollution hazardous material response Pacific Strike Team in Novato, are on standby to deploy in case their skills or gear are needed.
