New York Coast Guard helps feed community impacted from Hurricane Sandy

Northeast Atlantic Coast Guard NewsNEW YORK – Coast Guard Station New York crewmembers help to deliver hot meals to residents impacted from Hurricane Sandy in Red Hook, Brooklyn, N.Y., today.

Station New York boat crews and Good Morning America coordinated efforts with the Food Bank of New York to deliver the hot meals by boat to Red Hook, an area in Brooklyn severely impacted from the storm surge caused by Hurricane Sandy on October 29. 2012.

As a result of the storm, the local Red Hook grocery store suffered severe water damage and all the food had to be thrown out leaving residents in need of assistance. Adding to this, some areas still remain without power.

Red Hook residents were grateful for Coast Guard members for helping to provide them with hot meals, which for many in that area have been without since just before the storm hit.
