New Hampshire men to receive prestigious live saving awards

1st Coast Guard District NewsBOSTON — Two New Hampshire men will receive the Coast Guard Certificate of Valor and Coast Guard Public Service Commendation in New Castle, N.H., Tuesday.

Congressman Frank Guinta, New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, will join Rear Adm. Daniel Neptun, 1st Coast Guard District commander, to present the prestigious life saving awards to Michael Garrity and Adam Sexton during a ceremony at Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor.

Garrity, who will receive the Certificate of Valor, and Sexton combined to rescue a woman from nearly drowning in dangerous surf off a Mexico beach March 14, 2005.

The Certificate of Valor being presented to Garrity will be the 22nd awarded by the Coast Guard since its creation in 2003.
