KENOSHA, Wisc. – The Coast Guard rescued two people after their boat allided with the breakwall, here, nearly 200 yards off shore at approximately 1:15 a.m., Sunday.
A third person did not survive the accident.
Coast Guard Station Kenosha was notified by 911 Dispatch that a 20-foot recreational boat with three passengers collided with the Kenosha breakwall.
A station 25-foot Response Boat arrived on scene and two crewmembers were transferred to the breakwall where two survivors of the crash laid.
“We arrived and there was lots of debris in the water and two people laying on the breakwall that we didn’t know if they were alive or dead,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Collins, a station crewmember.
The two crewmembers tended to the survivors while the 25-foot response boat returned to shore to get Emergency Medical Services paramedics and bring them to the breakwall.
The injured were a male who suffered cuts and bruises, and a female who suffered a spinal and facial injuries.
The Coast Guard returned the victims and EMS back to the station where they were transported to the hospital.
A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter from Air Facility Waukegon, Kenosha Dive Team, Kenosha Fire Department, Trevor Fire Department, Randal Fire Department began the search for the third victim who was found on the other side of the breakwall deceased.
An investigation is being conducted to determine if alcohol or speed was involved.
