National Strike Force Responds to New Orleans Oil Spill

New Orleans – Ten members of the Coast Guard National Strike Force are responding to a fuel oil spill of more than 400,000 gallons that occurred this morning when the 600-foot ship, Tintomara, and a barge collided on the Mississippi River at New Orleans.

Eight Mobile, Ala., based Gulf Strike Team members and two Elizabeth City, N.C., based Public Information Assist Team members were requested by Coast Guard Sector New Orleans to help guide the response efforts.

The incident is under investigation.
