Multi-agency search for missing fisherman near Cocodrie

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans training exerciseNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are searching for a reportedly missing oyster fisherman, near Cocodrie, La., Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders were notified by the Terrebonne Parish Sherriff’s Department at 6:30 p.m., Friday, that Tommy Newsome was reportedly last seen by other fishermen Monday, October 19, 2015.

Newsome’s boat is reportedly an aluminum hull boat with a white cabin. It was reported to have a tarp aboard as well.

A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was launched after receiving the initial notification, and rescuers searched by helicopter again this morning.

Currently the Terrebonne Sheriff’s Department is on scene as well as Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
