Morgenthau Gets Underway for Three Month Deployment

COAST GUARD ISLAND, ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau, homeported here, got underway yesterday for a three-month patrol of the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

A multi-mission Coast Guard cutter, Morgenthau will conduct counter-narcotics, illegal immigration, homeland security, and other training operations while on patrol.

In her last two Eastern Pacific Patrols, Morgenthau has interdicted five drug running vessels carrying a combined total of more than 36,000 pounds of cocaine. One drug bust, occurring in August of 2005 was the fourth largest drug bust by a Coast Guard Cutter, in which 14,597 pounds of cocaine was seized.
