Missing Windsurfer Found Safe on Beach

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coast Guard Sector Charleston rescue crews searched for a missing windsurfer off Folly Island, S.C., with state and local agencies after receiving a report of a missing windsurfer from the 911 center at 7:26 pm Friday.

The windsurfer was found safe after swimming ashore. A witness initially saw the windsurfer enter the water approximately 300-400 yards from the beach, drifting north.

A Coast Guard Station Charleston 41-foot rescue boat crew, Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston rescue helicopter crew, Folly Island Fire and Rescue, Charleston County Rescue and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources all assisted in the search for the missing windsurfer.

During the search, the Folly Island Fire and Rescue jetski located the kite floating in the water. The local police department reported the windsurfer safe on the beach after swimming ashore.
