Missing Norfolk Sailing Vessel Located

Portsmouth, Va. – The Coast Guard ended its search today for the 54-foot sailing vessel Meltemi after one of the four men on board contacted his wife this morning via cell phone to report their location and that the vessel and its crewmembers were not in distress.

The Meltemi had departed from Willoughby Bay in Norfolk, Va., Wednesday en route to Florida. The Coast Guard was notified after one of the crew did not make a scheduled call to a family member.

Currently the vessel is 20 nautical miles east of Jacksonville, Fla., where it is heading to now.

The Coast Guard continues to search for the 30-foot sailing vessel Pride, which departed from Lewes, Del., on Nov. 30 for Panama with two people aboard. The Pride did not check in as scheduled on Dec. 2.
