Missing Hunter Found

November 22, 2006 Sault Ste. Marie, MI – The search for a missing deer hunter came to a grim end early this morning with the discovery of a deceased individual in Mackinac County’s Brevort Township.

A 58-year-old hunter from Cadillac was found dead Wednesday morning near his deer blind in Mackinac County, police said. The man, whose name was not immediately released, was reported missing about 5 a.m. Tuesday when he did not return to deer camp, state police told The Mining Journal of Marquette.

Police said the man died from natural causes.

Search and rescue efforts began during the night after the hunter was reported missing. In addition to ground searchers, the U.S. Coast Guard dispatched an HH-65 helicopter with a four-man crew from Air Station Traverse City. The helo was dispatched at 1:45 a.m. today and returned at 8:05 a.m., according to a spokesman from the Traverse City Station.

The Michigan State Police K-9 Unit out of the Sault Post assisted with the operation and apparently located the deceased hunter early this morning.
