Missing father and son found safe near Catalina Island

CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. — The two missing boaters have been found safe offshore Catalina Island Sunday, shortly before 2 p.m. by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard started the search this morning after receiving the report of a partially submerged skiff at 7:40 a.m. off the Coast of Catalina Island with no one on board.

An HH-65 Helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles was launched to the area along with a 41-foot utility boat from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles and a C-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento. Assets from Baywatch Avalon, Baywatch Isthmus and Newport Harbor Patrol were also on scene assisting with the search.
The Coast Guard would like to thank their partner agencies as well as the community for responding and assisting with the search.
