GUAM – On December 6th, patrol boats from three nations will enter Apra Harbor for several days of training and information sharing as part of the Exercise Sea Guardian. At approximately 12 p.m., the Coast Guard Cutter Washington will accompany the Palauan Pacific Patrol Boat (PPB) Remeliik and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) PPB Micronesia to Coast Guard Sector Guam’s pier.
Sea Guardian is a joint US Coast Guard, Palau Marine Law and FSM Maritime Police exercise to share maritime security, law enforcement, and search and rescue information. The exercise will involve at-sea and shore-based training using Coast Guard Sector Guam, Coast Guard Cutter Sequoia, Coast Guard Cutter Assateague, and Coast Guard Cutter Washington as resources. Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration personnel are also scheduled to provide hands-on training during the three day exercise period. The event was organized by Lt. Cmdr. Theresa Neumann, Chief of Response for Coast Guard Sector Guam.
In addition to the crews of the PPB Remeliik and the PPB Micronesia, foreign attendees include Director Hazime Telei, Director of Palau’s Bureau of Public Safety, Captain Ellender Ngirameketii, Chief of Marine Enforcement for the Republic of Palau, Chief Pius Chotailug, Chief of Police for the FSM, Lt. Cmdr. David Hannah, Australian Maritime Security Advisor to Palau, and Lt. Cmdr. Mark Sorbey, Australian Maritime Security Advisor to the FSM.
