Medical Transport Plane Goes Down in Lake Michigan

Milwaukee – The Associated Press is reporting that a medical transport plane carrying six people crashed in Lake Michigan this afternoon shortly after the pilot declared an emergency. The pilot issued the distress call a few minutes after leaving General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee on the way to Willow Run Airport near Detroit.

The Coast Guard found what they believe is the Cessna Citation around 4:20 p.m., about 20 minutes after they were contacted. Milwaukee Fire Lt. Lawrence Jenkins said that although medical transport planes normally carry patients or organs for transplant, he was unaware of what was on the plane.
