Maritime Patrol Aircraft Hangar Ground Breaking to be held at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The Coast Guard will celebrate a ground breaking to begin the construction of a $23.5 million Maritime Patrol Aircraft Hangar on April 15th at 10:00 a.m.

The Coast Guard’s First District Commander, Rear Adm. Daniel Neptun, will be joined by Massachusetts Senate President Ms. Therese Murray, Air Station Cape Cod’s Commanding Officer Capt. David Throop and other local officials in commemorating the first step in Air Station Cape Cod’s transition to operating the HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft.

When complete in the summer of 2012, the 80,000 square-foot hangar will have four completely functional maintenance and wash bays along with maintenance offices and workshops to support the HC-144. The Air Station will then begin receiving the more capable HC-144, which will provide greater endurance, allow the aircrews to remain on-scene longer, collect more information, support other assets and track targets for longer periods of time.

The Design Build Contract was awarded to Perini Corporation on Nov. 16, 2010.

The HC-144 will be replacing the HU-25 Guardian search plane.
