Manteo Native Awarded Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal

Portsmouth, Va.–Coast Guard Cmdr. George G. Bonner IV, a native of Manteo, N.C., was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal today for exceptional achievement and superior performance of his duties from July 2004 to May 2007 while serving as chief of infrastructure planning for the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area.

The award was presented by Vice Adm. Brian D. Peterman, the Commander of Atlantic Area. Cmdr. Bonner recently received orders assigning him to Sector Hampton Roads as chief of logistics.

Cmdr. Bonner is the son of G.G. and Bonny Bonner of Manteo. He is married to Andrea Barber Bonner of Kill Devil Hills and they have 3 children, Logan, Lea and Laney. He is a 1984 graduate of Manteo High School and a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He has a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and recently completed a Coastal Engineering graduate studies program at Old Dominion University. He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and Virginia.
