Man rescued near Depoe Bay, Oregon

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a man from the water near South Point in Depoe Bay, Ore., Friday.

The man was reported missing about an hour after he had gone to recover a kite from a rocky area near North Point. A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Facility Newport, Ore., two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews from Station Depoe Bay and a Depoe Bay Fire/Rescue team were dispatched to locate the man who was located in the water 50-100 yds. from shore.

A rescue swimmer from the helicopter was lowered to retrieve the man who was unresponsive. The man was immediately taken to Lincoln City Hospital. It is unknown how long he was in the water.
