Man rescued by Coast Guard crew 80 miles west of Clearwater, Fla.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A 53-year-old man was rescued by a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew 80 miles west of Clearwater from the 100-foot diving boat he was aboard, Friday.

Rescued was Gerald Gervuasi.

The captain of the dive boat, Ultimate Getaway, contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Florida, watchstanders at approximately 11 a.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting Gervuasi, a passenger aboard the diving boat, was experiencing heart attack symptoms. He also reported the symptoms were not dive related.

The Jayhawk crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater arrived on scene, hoisted Gervuasi and transported him to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
