Man rescued by Coast Guard 78 miles west of Hudson, Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 25-year-old man was medically evacuated by the Coast Guard approximately 78 miles west of Hudson, Florida, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg command center received notification at 3 p.m. from a crewmember aboard a 55-foot fishing vessel reporting a fisherma was suffering from illness and in need of emergency medical assistance.

Watchstanders launched an aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater. The aircrew arrived on scene at 6:45 p.m., hoisted the man and transported him to Tampa General Hospital for further care.
