Man Picked Up By Coast Guard After Running Boat Aground

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – A man was rescued this afternoon by the Coast Guard after running his fishing boat aground near Atlantic City.

Joe Galushka, 42, Galloway, N.J., notified SeaTow that he was stuck in the mud in the back bay area of Absecon, N.J., and required assistance. SeaTow was unable to reach Galushka due to the low tide and notified the Coast Guard at 1:20 p.m. Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City were also unable to reach him due to the shallow water and contacted Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City. A rescue helicopter arrived on scene and was able to get Galushka into a basket and hoist him to safety aboard the helicopter and flew him to Station Atlantic City where he was checked by local EMS and released.

Galushka’s 23-foot fishing boat will be recovered by SeaTow at high tide.
