NEW YORK–A 26 year old man was medevaced from a fishing vessel 15 miles south of Jones Inlet, N.Y., at about 8:25 p.m. today.
The man was medevaced after complaining of pains in the groin while working onboard the 140-foot fishing vessel, Persistance, home ported in Rhode Island.
A Coast Guard rescue crew from Station Jones Beach immediately responded and transferred the man back to the station, where local Emergency Medical Services personnel were waiting.
“A Coast Guard flight surgeon from Air Station Cape Cod recommended the medevac due to the possibility of a serious medical condition,” said Mr. Mark Averill, Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command duty officer, “and because the vessel was too large to pull into Jones Beach, which was the closest port.”
The weather on scene at the time of the medevac was 15 mile-per-hour winds and calm seas.
