Coast Guard 9th District accepts Admiral Russell R. Waeshe Award

CLEVELAND — Representatives of the Coast Guard 9th District in Cleveland accepted the Admiral Russell R. Waesche Award, Thursday, in Long Beach, California.

The award was presented at the Reserve Officers Association national convention and honors the Reserve program with fewer than 600 positions that best integrates reservists into Coast Guard operational missions.

Part of the District’s responsibilities include strategic oversight of 560 reserve positions in the eight-state Great Lakes region, spanning from New York to Minnesota.

This is the third year in a row that the 9th District’s team won the award for excellence in a region that includes five million recreational boaters, 200 million tons of shipping vital to the U.S. and Canadian economies, precious freshwater resources, and a 1,500 nautical mile international border.

The award is named for the commandant who led the Coast Guard during World War II and founded the service’s Reserve program.
