Kodiak Coast Guard Medevacs 2 Crewmembers from Fishing Vessel

KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a crewmember and treated another aboard a fishing vessel in Izhut bay at 10 a.m., today.

The Coast Guard received a call at 8:30 a.m., that two crewmembers aboard the 49-foot fishing vessel Kilokak were injured during an altercation.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched from Air Station Kodiak at 9:25 a.m., and located the vessel at 9:45 a.m. A rescue swimmer was lowered and provided first aid to one crewmember. The second injured crewmember required immediate medical attention and was safely hoisted into the helicopter.

The 24 year old man was flown to the Kodiak State Airport where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical technicians for further treatment.

He was reported in stable condition at Providence Island Medical Center in Kodiak.

The Alaska State Troopers are investigating the incident.
