5th Coast Guard District News
CAPE MAY, N.J. – Jill Simcox, a Los Alamos, New Mexico native, has been selected as the Coast Guard District Five Spouse of the year and has advanced to the semi-final round to be considered for the National Military Spouse of the Year award, Friday.

Simcox, whose husband is currently a Company Commander at U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, is an active member of the Jersey Cape Military Spouses Club and currently the committee head for their membership.  She served as the President of the Club in 2013, and has been a member for close to four years.

Simcox is a member of the Cape May City Board of Education and volunteers at a local elementary school, and as a Sunday school teacher at Our Lady Star of the Sea.

“I think the most important issue that military families face is that of providing a stable environment for our children,” said Simcox. “In a lifestyle where change is more common than routine, it can be challenging to provide structure.”

Prior to leaving Los Alamos, Simcox worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory where she conducted research on our Nation’s weapon systems.

Candidates for the 2015 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year represent more than 170 bases and all nine Coast Guard districts. More information about the program can be found by clicking here: http://ift.tt/Kmpy6C
