Icebreaker crew to volunteer for polar science weekend

SEATTLE — Crewmembers from the Coast Guard cutter Healy are scheduled to participate in the Polar Science Weekend at the Pacific Science Center here Friday and Saturday.

The crew will demonstrate use of survival suits and firefighting gear and educate people on the effects of hypothermia. Crewmembers are participating in the event to share information with the public about the Coast Guard’s role in the Arctic.

The 420-foot icebreaker, based here, will be leaving for its next mission in the Bering Sea Mar. 4.
