Port Angeles, WA – A hiker was rescued from Church Mountain near Bellingham, Wash. today at approximately 1:00 p.m. after being lost in the wilderness four days.
Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles received a call from local authorities stating a Customs Department helicopter had found the missing hiker after spotting the word “HELP” spelled out in the snow. The Customs Department helicopter was not equipped to perform a rescue so an HH-65 helicopter crew from Port Angeles was diverted to the scene where they hoisted the man to safety and delivered him to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.
