ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla – A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga., is en route to rescue five children and two adults from a disabled fishing vessel that is drifting toward shore in Nassau Sound, Fla., Saturday.

The boaters notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, Fla., at 2:45 p.m. that their vessel became disabled, the anchor was not holding and they were rapidly drifting to shore.

The helicopter crew intends to hoist all seven people from the boat and take them to the south end of Little Talbot Island.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach, Fla., and a Nassau County Marine Unit boat, which both also responded, remain on scene near the vessel but are unable to come alongside due to shoals.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also assisted with finding the landing location for the helicopter.

No injuries have been reported.
