Helicopter Crash Update

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard responded to a helicopter crash with four passengers that occured at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday on the Southwest Pass near Venice, La.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a mayday call from the shrimp vessel Sally Kim IV reporting that an Air Logistics helicopter had crashed and that they had three of the four passengers onboard their vessel.

Coast Guard Station Venice was on scene with a 33-foot boat to transport the three passengers to Station Venice where an ambulance transported them to West Jefferson Hospital.

The fourth passenger was located and rescued at approximately 7:30 p.m. by a good samaritan. An HH-65C rescue helicopter crew from Air Station New Orleans arrived on scene and medevaced the fourth passenger and transported him Navy Air Station New Orleans where an ambulance was standing by to transport him to West Jefferson Hospital.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
