Hampton Roads Coast Guard members participate in Wall of Honor Ceremony

5th Coast Guard District NewsRICHMOND, Va. – Coast Guard units from Hampton Roads participated in the Wall of Honor Ceremony at the state capitol building here Thursday to honor fallen service members from Virginia.

The Wall of Honor Ceremony is an annual event hosted by the governor and the attorney general that recognizes Virginians killed in action during the Global War on Terror.

Members of the Coast Guard escorted families of the fallen during the Ceremony, participated in a joint-services color guard and assisted in reading the names of the dead.

Included among these names was Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathan B. Bruckenthal, who was killed in action on April 24, 2004, while deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., also performed a flyover during the ceremony.
