Hail to the chief

There’s a very good article today in the Maryland Gazette.

Gregory Kendall took over as fire chief at the Curtis Bay Coast Guard Yard Station last year, leading an eight-person team that responds to fires, emergency medical and hazardous material calls on the 113-acre base 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It’s a job that protects the community from potentially devastating disasters, and most of the public don’t even know the chief petty officer is there.

Chief Kendall’s work is being recognized today by the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce in the 22nd Annual Community Safety Awards Luncheon.

“Fire prevention at a large-scale industrial base such as the Coast Guard Yard with its multimillion-dollar ships, warehouses and equipment is vital,” Coast Guard Lt. Susana Lee wrote in nominating the chief.
