Good Samaritan surfers rescue two distressed swimmers near Monterey

SAN FRANCISCO – Two distressed swimmers were rescued by a pair of Good Samaritan surfers 200 yards off the shore of Monterey Bay today at approximately 2 p.m.

Coast Guard Station Monterey received a call from Monterey County Emergency Communications concerning distressed swimmers in the water 200 yards west of Monterey. A Coast Guard 25-foot response boat was directed to the scene and located the two swimmers, who were being assisted by two surfers. The response boat transported all four people back to shore safely.

The surfers used their surf boards to keep the distressed swimmers above water.

The two distressed swimmers were transported to emergency medical service personnel on shore.

The condition of the two swimmers is unknown at this time.
