Good Samaritan rescues two after Coast Guard emergency broadcast

BOSTON — The pleasure craft Mary Jane rescued two people from the water Wednesday after the Coast Guard issued an emergency broadcast for a 25-foot pleasure craft that capsized near Isle of Shoals in Portsmouth, N.H.

Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received a mayday transmission on VHF/VHF-FM 16 that the vessel Tail Spin was taking on water and the crew was planning to abandon ship.

Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor and Station Merrimack River launched 25-foot boats, but stood down after they were notified that the good Samaritan vessel had picked up the crew of the Tail Spin.

The Mary Jane crew transfered them to Station Portsmouth Harbor’s boat, which brought them to the station.

There were no injuries and no reports of pollution.

The owner of the Tail Spin will be hiring commercial salvage to recover the capsized vessel.
