Coast Guard Air Station Miami LogoKEY WEST, Fla.– Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders were notified of a missing boater from a 34-foot sailing vessel near the Hyatt Hotel in Key West, Saturday.

The missing person left the sailing vessel in a dingy around 2:30 a.m., Saturday to pick up a friend on shore. During his journey to shore the motor on the dingy stopped working. With no means of propulsion the dingy began to drift out of sight.

The initial nighttime searches yielded no results. When the sun rose, Station Key West boat crews continued searching for the missing person.

A good Samaritan from the vessel, Yankee Freedom, responded to the UMIB and began looking for the missing person. The crew of the Yankee Freedom located the dingy and missing person around 8:30 a.m. six nautical miles southwest of Key West. The missing person was found with no medical concerns, and was reunited with his friends on the sailing vessel.
