MIAMI — One person was rescued near Lake Worth Inlet, Fla., Monday when a good Samaritan in a nearby condo called authorities after seeing a diver in the ocean waving his hands for help.

Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received the report of the diver missing from the vessel Deep Obsession and launched a rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet and diverted an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office with the search.

The diver was reported last seen one nautical mile southeast of Lake Worth Inlet. Sector Miami watchstanders also issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast after he failed to surface at his scheduled time.

A Palm Beach Sherrif’s Office marine unit responded to the divers reported location and recovered him from the water with no reported injuries. The diver was returned to the Deep Obsession.

The Coast Guard reminds divers to follow safety procedures and to follow planned dive schedules to help prevent search and rescue emergencies.
