BOSTON – The Coast Guard recovered the body of one fisherman and continues its search for a second near Gloucester, Mass., this morning, after receiving reports that a fire alarm on board the pair’s fishing vessel had been activated.
The two men left Gloucester around 6 p.m., Friday aboard their 54-foot stern trawler Patriot. The Patriot’s co-owner contacted Coast Guard Station Gloucester at 1:45 a.m., to report the vessel’s fire alarms had been activated.
The Coast Guard Cutter Flyingfish, a Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., and a 47-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Gloucester continue to search for the missing fisherman.
The Coast Guard also issued a marine information broadcast requesting assistance with the search from mariners in the area.
Seas are 4-6 feet with winds of 20-25 knots. The water temperature is 42 degrees.
