Ft. Myers Coast Guard Rescues Two Off Pine Island

FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Coast Guard rescued two men off the 60-foot tug Jahmon that was taking on water two miles west of Pine Island, in north Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., at about 11:30 p.m. last night.Mike Myers, 46, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Harry Register, 50 of Panama City, Fla., contacted the Coast Guard using a VHF radio, Channel 16 at about 11 p.m. reporting that the engine room flooded and the vessel was beginning to take on water and severely list to the side. The two men had their life jackets on.

A 25-foot rescue boat crew was immediately launched from Coast Guard Station Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and arrived on scene at about 11:30 p.m. The rescue crew recovered Myers and Register out of the water and transferred the two men to Pine Island Fire and Rescue.

The tug Jahmon was reported to have 300-gallons of fuel on board. An unknown amount of fuel was reported to be in the water. Sea Tow is booming off the vessel to keep the leaking fuel from spreading and will salvage the vessel.
