This Day in Coast Guard History:


  • Coast Guard Air Station Sitka medically evacuated an eight-year-old boy who was injured during a playground accident in Port Alexander, Alaska
  • Crewmembers aboard a Coast Guard C-130 Hercules rescue plane from Air Station Barbers Point delivered emergency medical supplies to a cruise ship 1,000 miles north of Oahu.
  • A Coast Guard search and rescue crew from Air Facility Charleston assisted a vessel taking on water 30 miles northeast of Charleston.
  • Coast Guard Station Calumet Harbor assisted the Chicago Marine Police with the rescue of four men in the water along the Calumet breakwall.
  • A Coast Guard C-130 crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., assisted FEMA in transporting vehicles and personnel to respond to the California wildfires.
  • A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod crew airlifted a 36-year-old man from Nantucket Cottage Hospital and transported him to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston after high winds grounded the hospital’s helicopters.


  • A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah search and rescue crew rescued four people from a life raft 65-miles southeast of Savannah.
  • John O. Dacuag, of Salt Lake in Honolulu, was presented the Coast Guard Gold Lifesaving Medal for saving a cargo ship crewman lost at sea during a deadly 2007 typhoon.
  • A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Moriches rescued a man after his boat capsized 300-yards southeast of Moriches Inlet.

United States Coast Guard Recital Series performance – The Dolphin

The United States Coast Guard Band Recital Series kicks off its new season with a free performance, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m., in Leamy Concert Hall at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
