Forest Hill Maryland Native Honored By Coast Guard

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Coast Guard Petty Officer Gregg J. Pescuma, Jr., a native of Forest Hill, Md., was selected as the Sector Hampton Roads Sub-unit Sailor of the Quarter at a ceremony July 25 in Chincoteague, Va.

Pescuma was awarded this recognition for superior performance of duty. Between April 1 and June 30, Pescuma helped junior personnel qualify as boat crewmembers, and duty watch standers. He volunteered off duty time to participate in community events and served as a mentor to local students within the community as a member of the Coast Guard’s partnership in education program. During the Jamestown, Va., 400 Anniversary Celebration, Pescuma’s efforts led to several drug and weapons seizures.

Pescuma is currently assigned to Coast Guard Station Chincoteague where he serves as boat coxswain and boarding officer. He has served in the Coast Guard for over five years.
