Five Fisherman Rescued of the California Coast

LOS ANGELES – Five fishermen are safe after their vessel sank off the coast of Ventura County, Calif. this morning.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a call for help just after midnight over VHF radio channel 16 from the 60-foot fishing vessel Little Joe reporting that they were taking on water . Rescuers from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor responded.

The five fishermen were found safe in a 17-foot skiff at 1:13 am and taken back to shore by a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor.

The vessel was equipped with a marine radio, GPS, and Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), which aided the Coast Guard in locating the fishermen. The vessel was based out of Ventura, Calif.

The cause of the sinking is currently under investigation.
