Eastham Police Department, Coast Guard suspend search for missing person in water

29 Cape DissapointmentBOSTON — The Eastham Police Department and the Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing 47-year-old man in the water near Eastham Friday at about 7 p.m.

The Eastham Police Department, who initiated and led the multi-agency effort, suspended the marine aspect of the search pending future developments.

The 11-hour search included multiple agencies including the Wellfleet Harbormaster, Wellfleet Fire Department, Eastham Fire Department, Orleans Fire Department, and four good Samaritans. Search crews blanketed the Wellfleet Harbor and Billingsgate Shoal Areas but turned up no leads. Coast Guard assets included a 29-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Provincetown, a 45-foot rescue boat crew from Station Cape Cod Canal, and an HC-144 aircrew and MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.

The Eastham Police Department remains the lead agency and were expected to continue the land search at first light Saturday.
