Dive Team Successfully Enters Lady of Grace

WOODS HOLE, Mass. – Divers from the Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit and a private salvage company successfully searched a portion of the interior section of the fishing vessel Lady of Grace Tuesday morning before they were forced to stop dive operations due to deteriorating weather. The divers battled six foot waves, 25 mile per hour winds, and strong currents as they dove in 32-degree water 12 miles south of Hyannis, Mass. Visibility in the water was reported to be approximately 5 to 10 feet.

The State Police divers, working in conjunction with representatives of the fishing vessel’s owner, were unable to locate crewmembers Rogerio Ventura, Mario Farinhas and Joao Silva who remain missing after the vessel sank on January 26. The body of Mr. Antonio Barroqueiro, 50, was recovered from the fishing vessel’s pilot house on January 29.

A 41-foot patrol boat crew from Coast Guard Station Woods Hole enforced a safety zone around the dive location. The salvage vessel Andy Lynn VI, hired by the owner of Lady of Grace, as well as a 41- foot State Police vessel also participated in the operation.
