The dive float has a red and white flag attached but no lines or markings.
Anyone with information that may help identify the user is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center at 808-842-2600.
Watchstanders at the Sector Honolulu Command Center received a report at Saturday afternoon from the crew of  a small passenger vessel who located dive float approximately one mile offshore of Black Rock Beach on the west side of Maui along the Kaanapali Coast.
Sector Honolulu watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast alerting anyone in the area to the situation and launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point to search the area.
There are currently no reported signs of distress or missing persons in the area. The good Samaritan did not recover the dive float and it remains adrift.
The Coast Guard reminds the public to mark any dive floats with their name and number to allow positive identification of the owner and assist responders in search efforts when such items are discovered at sea. If you lose a dive float, life jacket, surfboard or kayak report it to the Coast Guard to prevent unnecessary searches for persons in distress. It may also allow responders to return your gear if found.
