Deceased Florida kayaker’s identity determined

KEY WEST, Fla. — The body of a deceased kayaker that was located 2 miles west of Loggerhead Key, Fla., in the Dry Tortugas National Park by the National Park Service Sunday has been identified as Jana Krulichova, 29, of the Czech Republic.

A multi-agency search involving the Coast Guard and National Park Service was launched Saturday night after Krulichova and her boyfriend, Shane Wood, were reported overdue from a kayak trip and were supposed to return to the Dry Tortugas National Park at 4:30 p.m., Saturday.

Wood was located in the water by a Coast Guard HU-25 Falcon jet crew from Air Station Miami and rescued by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island on Sunday. The Pea Island crew later brought Wood back to Key West.

Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island is a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Key West.
