MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – The Coast Guard continues to receive reports of debris found in the vicinity of Trinidad Bay, which is most likely from the DA40 airplane that went missing the night of March 1, 2009.
Photos of the debris were sent to the aircraft manufacturer, Diamond Aviation. The manufacturer is almost certain that the debris is from a Diamond aircraft.
The debris, which has been found from Agate Beach south to Trinidad Bay, is a composite material that can cause some health hazards if handled improperly. The Coast Guard urges the public to avoid handling suspected aircraft debris. If debris is found, the Coast Guard requests you notify the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office.
The associated health hazards of composite materials can be encountered through dermal (skin) contact and inhalation.
