Cutter Haley Crewmember Charged with Rape

Unalaska, AK – A crewmember of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley has been arrested by Unalaska police and charged with two counts of rape after an investigation that began in the early morning hours New Year’s Day.

Freddy L. Lugo, 44, was charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree sexual assault in Unalaska court.

Lugo’s bail was initially set at $150,000, according to court documents..

The alleged victim, contacted police in the lobby of the Grand Aleutian Hotel, Jan. 1, at about 4:20 a.m.

The woman told police she met a Coast Guard crewmember at a bar. The couple drank and danced together, then left for the hotel room. She told police she was assaulted after repeatedly saying no and telling her assailant to stop.

Officers later identified Lugo as the suspect. Lugo told the officers he had consensual sex with his accuser.
